Is it possible that I inspired this?

Bernat now has a "Work Sock Cup Cozy" pattern.

And it's been a few years now that I've been selling my Work Sock Cup Cozy in my Etsy shop ennadoolf.

My design was even featured in Canadian House & Home magazine in December 2010!

So when I received my Bernat email that features their yarns and patterns yesterday, do you blame me for thinking that maybe I inspired their new pattern?

It's not the same as mine - and I must admit that I think mine is a better design since the centre part is easier to hold ... because after all, you will be holding the cup.

Squeaky TV set!

Connected to our tv we have all those little speakers that make up a surroundsound system - not something I ever would have thought we'd need but apparently a necessity where hubby is concerned. ;-)

Those little speakers are cool when sounds travel around the room and really do add to the movie experience for lots of different movies.

They're a bit of a pain in the butt for different noises too - like a doorbell on tv always seems to come through the speaker closest to our front door. How did they do that? And sometimes other noises only come through certain speakers so I think there is a noise in the kitchen or coming from the bedrooms. [sigh]

Part of the sound system is a black box that sits on the floor - it has a proper name but it has something to do with the bass sounds.

What does all this have to do with a Squeaky TV set?

patience. :)

We noticed that during certain shows or movies our tv squeaked! It was so odd! It wasn't always the loudest show. And seemed to be random. It was an odd squeak. Maybe the speakers in the tv? Maybe the tv was broken? Hubby didn't seem to notice at first ... so I made sure to point it out to him.

When my daughter comes to visit, she will sometimes bring her cat so that he can run outside. We have a few toys here for when he comes to visit. And the toys are on that black box.

See that mouse in the basket in the photo? Well, it squeaks. And apparently the vibration from the bass unit is enough to cause it to squeak! And it squeaks whenever the black box vibrates! LOL

Mystery solved.

I ran an errand at lunch today and passed by a parked car and the license plate was ### SSK (#s not important to this story!)

My first thought was SSK - Saskatchewan!

And then immediately after, my thought process changed to Slip Slip Knit!

Yep, I was thinking knitting even when I wasn't knitting!

And for those of you that don't know, SSK is a combination of stitches used in knitting ... often used for airy or lacey patterns or when decreasing stitches.

Years ago I had a "What the Heck was That?" moment.

I was driving in our city and I saw a helicopter overhead carrying something large underneath it ... I watched the news that night, and searched online and in newspaper print and saw nothing to explain it.

Everyone I asked had not seen it.

I was SO curious but eventually forgot about it.

Until last night. On the news, they talked about how local farmers could not get onto their wet fields to put in the seed for their winter wheat.

So they were seeding using a helicopter - and suddenly! There it was! That image from so many years ago!

It was something like this:

Apparently, farmers sometimes use helicopters to seed their fields, or use it to fertilize their fields.

Mystery solved.

Tutorial - Small Tags for Handknits

I wanted some small tags to attach to some of the handknits I make for my etsy shop ~ ennadoolf ~ and thought I'd try Shrinky Dinks.

My local Michaels store only had one kind of Shrinky Dinks in stock, so that is what I bought.

They are the "bright white" ones with both sides being shiny - no rough side.

That means I could only use permanent markers on them, not colouring pencils.

I cut out several shapes in various sizes.

All of these photos were taken on my cutting board where you can see the 1 inch squares to give you an idea of sizes.

I figured that the items would shrink to about 30% of their original size.

The Shrinky Dinks sheets were 8 inches wide x 10 inches long, so I cut the sheet into 3 pieces - each 8 inches wide and using 1/3 of the length of the sheet.

I shaped many of the corners so that they would not have sharp edges.

And I cut some circular shapes too.

Decorate each piece as you'd like - with pictures, words, etc.

If you plan to punch holes, do that now. Remember the hole will shrink too.

I punched holes using both a 1/4 inch and a 1/8 inch punch.

A Properly Lined Tote Bag

Remember I was trying out that Zest Tote Bag from Joann.com?

And I didn't like the unfinished look of the inside seams?

Well, I did make one with properly hidden seams and here it is.

I loved the contrast fabric at the top - and because it was all Spagetti, Rigatoni, Lasagna and other Italian pastas, I had to give the bag to my friend Joanna. She and her mom, Nonna, will shop for pasta with it, right?!

And maybe she'll bring me some Fettucini some time! :)

I also thought of another way to hide the unfinished look of the original pattern ... and since those instructions are quicker, I might do this on the next ones ... simply cover the seams with bias tape. Should work. I'll let you know.

Pattern Review - Zest Tote Bag from Joann.com

Bag 1 - Side 1

I liked the look of the Zest Tote Bag (link is to a pdf file) on the Joann.com website and thought I'd give the pattern a try.

Modifications:

1. I did not include any quilt batting and did not stitch the quilting lines.

2. I replaced the fabric trim with battenburg lace I had in my stash.

Issues with Instructions:

The instructions are not clear on Step 3 for attaching the lining to the outer pieces - when I first did this, I automatically put right sides together but you must put wrong sides together for this step.

Ugly seams showing inside. :(

Additional Review Notes:

I was very disappointed that the seams show on the inside of the bag - since there is a lining, I assumed the inside seams would be hidden between the outer fabric and the lining. When I make my next bags, I will see if I can correct that and have the lining sewn separately to hide the seams. I'll be sure to post about that project.

The project is labelled as a Skill level 2: Sewing experience needed - I am not familiar with their levels, and I've been sewing since before my teens (and that is many many years) and I would have liked to see clearer instructions for Step 3 ... or perhaps clearer drawings depicting right side vs. wrong side.

Yes, I have officially abandoned this project ... for now.

Once I "finished" the yoke, I realized that I did make too many mistakes - the corners were'nt square and I didn't have enough completed stitches for the size I was making.

So I must have misunderstood the instructions.

Since I have other projects I need to work on between now and Christmas (yes! Christmas!) I want to get started on those. So I've "hibernated" this CAL and it is now a UFO (unfinished object).

For now.

I promise I will get back to it ... eventually.

with contributions from the Sparks, Brownies, Guides & Pathfinders of Oakridge

Girl Guides celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2010.

As part of the anniversary/centennial celebrations, Quilt Canada invited Girl Guides to put on a Special Exhibit of '100 years of Guiding' in quilts.

Girl Guides have been making quilt for years, and they could not display them all since many have been made as service projects and given away to those in need. Others have been made as gifts for retiring Guiders while others have been raffled off to raise funds for camps and activities.

Quilt Canada managed to borrow a number of quilts to exhibit, and included a photo display in order to show as many as possible.

We submitted photos of this Guiding quilt. It is beautiful and includes squares made by the Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders of Oakridge (in London Ontario Canada).

CAL - Crochet-a-long - Mesh Raglan Pullover - 4 letter word

There was a 4-letter word in the pattern instructions that I missed - TURN.

Apparently, when you "work in the round" in crochet, you don't go round and round and round.

Not in this pattern anyway.

The instructions wanted me to go round one row, then stop, TURN, and go back the other way for the next row.

I missed that 4-letter word.

I've already frogged back once so I've decided I don't mind that there is a boo-boo and I'm going to continue and see where it takes me.

And so this project continues ....

CAL - Crochet-a-long - Mesh Raglan Pullover - I started!

Well, I got off to a bit of a rocky start. :) I am *so* new to crochet - I've only made one terrible dishcloth and 2 pairs of slippers (one of which was probably full of mistakes like the dishcloth).

In all those projects, new stitches were always made using the holes created by the previous rows of stitches.

So that's how I thought this pattern was. Wrong!

I wasn't getting the pretty open square pattern that attracted me to this Mesh Raglan pullover in the first place!

So I visited the blog and read everyone's comments (some are already working on the sleeves!!) and then visited Ravelry and read everyone's comments there.

And I discovered that I shouldn't be creating my new stitches using the hole created by the previous stitch. Instead, I should go through the stitches at the top of the "column" created by my "dc" stitch.

I also discovered I did the corner stitches wrong and didn't have enough stitches at the end of 3 rows.

So I frogged back to the base stitches and started again.

I've completed 3 rows now (and they're not error-free but I hope they'll be ok).

Tutorial - Mark Your Suitcase

Suitcases on the baggage claim carousel all look the same!

You *think* you bought a unique suitcase, and then you see so many that look so similar!

What to do?

I saw a suitcase on a carousel once - and I *loved* what they did! They put initials on the suitcase!

Since we were buying replacement suitcases for our ragged old suitcases, I decided to do the same!

First we thought we'd use liquid paint pens. I tested that theory in a hidden area .. and the paint simply soaked into the suitcase fabric! No to that idea.

Then we found the acrylic paints that used to belong to my husband's aunt. I chose a bright yellow and it was perfect!

I used the word processing program on our computer to print out initials in the size we wanted (about 5 inches / 120cm high) and then I carefully cut them out to make the template.

I taped the template to the suitcase and painted!

We did 2 coats.

And then we went on a trip! It was great!!! We knew exactly which ones were ours!!

What's Growing in Your Garden?

Well, in my case, what I mean is: what's growing in your garden besides weeds!

I have one garden in particular that gets overrun with weeds - and it seems it happens the day after I finish weeding it! Our plan is to make that garden smaller some day, so hopefully when we do that we can somehow find a way to get rid of those pesky weeds.

I do like my gardens ... I'm not a big fan of gardening though.

My lilacs have bloomed and I've trimmed them back. And the lily of the valley, tulips and such are finished too. Right now I still have some peonies, bleeding heart and my rose bush.

I'm looking forward to the lilies, clematis and rose of sharon ... and possibly some other plants I've forgotten are there. oh, like the hostas - their flowers are so nice, too!

Where are your needles and hooks?

I received this beautiful flower pot from my daughter and it's the perfect size for my crochet hooks, shorter knitting needles and various tools needed for knit/crochet work. And that adorable fairy watches over them to be sure that when I use them, I won't lose stitches or mess up the pattern.

My dpns are stored inside this tin - the Victorian-esque print on the tin is Christmas-themed, but I like it and keep it on display year round.

I was thrilled to find these see-through cases at a yard sale! I had no idea what they were but knew I'd find a use for them. Originally I thought I'd use them for mini first aid kits for Girl Guides, but when I needed something to carry my essential knitting tools, I realized their true purpose in life! I now have two of them ready to go into any knitting project bag. They hold my stitch markers, measuring tape, small scissors, stitch holders and anything else that fits.

And see the little tube with the blue ends? This holds my blunt end needles for sewing up the ends of my projects - and it originally stored "jumbo erasers for automatic pencils" - I think leads for pencils come in similar containers.

Another gift from my daughter was this amazing metal vase - perfect for knitting needles!

I receive the Knitting Daily newsletter (subscribe at http://www.knittingdaily.com/) and a recent newsletter contained these great tips for taking your knitting (and I'm sure, crochet, too) travelling!

This is a summarized version ... if you'd like full version, visit Knitting Daily here. (you may need to login to view)

1. Pick easy projects. "Easy" here is a relative term ... be honest with yourself about your skill level and choose projects that you can knit without having to give a lot of attention.

2. Pick small-ish projects. The smaller the project, the easier it will be to knit while you're traveling.

3. Choose your tools wisely. Socks are my number one project for knitting on the go ... for longer travel, I usually opt for Magic-Loop — nothing like making friends with everyone on an airplane as you attempt to chase down a dropped dpn.

4. Organize everything. ... whatever you use, make sure it has some sort of closure. Placing your knitting projects in bags also protects them from getting roughed up in transit.

5. Keep a notebook handy.Having your notebook and pen or pencil nearby ensures that you can make a quick note of your stopping point, or jot down any modifications you make on the go.

6. Most importantly, relax!

Who's Filming A Movie Outside My House?

Got home today and as I was gathering my things, I watched 3 vehicles turn onto my street ... very slowly. Hm, my radar was immediately active! I noticed all 3 vehicles had U.S. licence plates. Hm, were they lost?

The vehicles pulled over and parked a few doors down. Two men crossed the street to throw trash into the trash can at the bus stop (thank you, Strangers for keeping our city clean!). As they crossed back, I asked them if they needed directions. They said no, and I noticed one carrying a movie camera!!

So of course I had to take photos to show everyone what was happening! The gentleman in the suit walked down the driveway of a nearby church .. and they filmed him.

Nothing too exciting, no car chase, no "fight", no real "action" at all.

But still! A movie! Being filmed near my house!!

The Great Ride - 30 Years

I am participating in Great Ride 'n' Stride in Oxford County to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.

This is my 30th year taking part!

Last year I learned London would no longer be hosting this event, so I'm heading to Thamesford this year! Thamesford is where the Great Ride originated! So it feels right to be there for my 30th year.

The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.

The weather doesn't look like it's going to cooperate though - calling for, ugh, snow! And I'm recuperating from a terrible cold, so I may have to postpone my ride and complete it next weekend. I will be completing a 20km ride this year. Years ago the London ride was 20km and when the route was moved from the streets to the bike paths, it was reduced to 10km; later it was reduced to 5kms when it was moved to Springbank Park - I was thrilled to discover that Thamesford still has a 20km route so whether I ride on Sunday or next weekend, that's what I'll be tackling this year!!

I was inspired when I found The Sisterhood of the Flower group on facebook ...

... and then found the tutorial at Dawn's blog - though we've changed it up a bit and instead of making a fabric-covered button we make a tiny yoyo and a button.

Oh, and use dental floss - it's so much stronger!

They are rather addictive and fun so I'll enjoy them now and then as a break from knitting and crochet!

I don't think I'll be making them for my etsy shop but they're still a fun little thing to work on every now and then.

Darn those critters!

I think it might have been bunnies.

The snow melted and look at my Magnolia!!!

I am not so sure it will survive this.

I'm so bummed.

I'm not much of a gardener so when I have a beautiful plant/bush/tree, I really treasure it.

And we'd never had to do anything to protect our Magnolia before so finding that something had chewed all round the trunk is pretty sad.

Here are some blooms to remember .. and hope for a miracle that the Magnolia survives.

Thankfully I do have my photos ... I have more available in my etsy shop ~ ennadoolf ~ to keep my flowers year 'round.

Tips When Visiting the Dominican Republic

I received these recently and thought I'd share. If you have any tips you'd like to share, please leave a comment!

And if you've travelled to the Dominican and are wishing you were back on vacation, you need one of my Caribbean Memories dishcloths to remind you of your vacation while back at home!

TIPS:

Bring pen in carry-on to fill out customs/tourist info on the plane

All visitors Must get a Mandatory $10 US cash only Tourist Card Upon Arrival.

All visitors Must pay $20 US per person when leaving the Dominican Republic.

Make a couple of photocopies of the identification page of your passport. Leave one photocopy at home and take one with you, but keep it in an separate place to your passport.

The resort will keep a copy of your hotel confirmation (attached to your e-ticket, so be sure to print a copy for them)

Take a travel mug with stainless steel inside & lid - this will keep your drinks extra cold and also keep sand and bugs out of it.

Pack a swim suit and flip flops in your carry on. When you arrive at the resort your room may not be ready.

Clothes pins to hang your swim suit.

Watch as your luggage is put on your bus, get on the bus and relax and see the countryside on the way to your resort and watch to be sure your luggage is taken off the bus!

Men be sure to bring one pair slacks for a la carte restaurants

Bring $1 US dollar bills for tips (such as for maids, person who fills the fridge in your room, bartenders, waiters, bell hops etc.)

US funds widely accepted at hotel or when out shopping. If you are planning any souvenirs US dollars are accepted by everyone

There is lots of food at the resort. There is always a restaurant open somewhere and usually room service but if you crave snacks like potato chips, etc. you may want to bring some along.

Voltage the same as North America so no adaptor necessary

Bringing a floatie for the pool might be fun - and you can leave it behind for others to enjoy after you leave.

There are lots of activities at all resorts to keep you busy, but if you like, bring a book or magazine - or your knitting! :)

My First Official Crochet Project

My first official crochet project!

This is my first “real” project after learning to crochet a few weeks ago.

Since I need to make 2, I thought I’d work on both at the same time just to make sure they turn out the same.

I am using the recommended hook size and some yarn from my stash that is just a worsted weight or so. I wanted to see the size I would make with these since my gauge is not very good, etc.

For my first project, it’s not too bad. I know it is full of mistakes but I just kept going as I’m not good enough yet to recognize errors or fix them. I did not use a contrasting colour for the loop to minimize anyone noticing the errors. :) hehe

For the next pair I will go to a smaller hook and/or a lighter weight of yarn to make the smaller pair that I was asked to make.

Here is the pattern for these Mary Jane Slippers.

I really enjoyed this pattern and have switched to a smaller hook - 4.5 mm - and a smaller yarn and have started the next pair ... one at a time this time!

This is my original Barbie - an early 1966 American Girl Barbie.

The butt markings on the American Girl Barbies differ and because mine has both raised and indented markings she is an early 1966.

She was nice enough to agree to model this dress I received many many years ago ... probably shortly after I received her!

And then I found this pattern book! and it has the instructions for making this Red Knit Dress!!

I was very excited because I knew I could use photos of my Barbie in her Red Knit Dress in the listing when I sell this booklet in my Etsy shop, Vintage And Such.

Tutorial - Sewing a headband

I made some of these headbands for my Etsy shop ennadoolf.

My friend Maria chose some fabrics for me to make some more so I thought I'd document the process as a tutorial.

Here goes!

Sewing a Headband

Supplies Needed: fabric (approx. 4"x20" or 10cm x 52cm) and a hair elastic.

I cut my piece of fabric approximately 4 inches wide by 20 inches long. That is approximately 10 cm wide by 52 cm long.

Fold in half lengthwise with right sides together.

Sew along the long edge (see photo) with about a 1/4 inch (1 cm) seam allowance.

Now we are going to turn the fabric right side out.

You can do this however you like - this is how I did it.

Take a piece of string - a shoe lace works great - and tie a loop at each end.

Add a safety pin to each end.

Pin one safety pin to the edge of your fabric - in the seam allowance - about 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the end.

Take the other safety pin at the other end and insert it into the fabric.

Pull that safety pin through the tube to the other opening.

Now keep pulling that safety pin through. The end of the fabric where the safety pin is pinned ... guide it so that it begins to turn into the inside so that it is being pulled through.

See photos to see how this is happening ... and keep pulling until your item is right side out!

It's much simpler to do than it is to describe! :) Just trust me on that one!

Now you want to add your hair elastic.

Place the elastic at the end and fold the fabric over it.

Pin it in place with a safety pin. Now fold the other end of the fabric over it, being careful not to twist the fabric. Pin it in place with a safety pin.

Try on the headband. Adjust your folds for the perfect fit prior to sewing. I didn't do these pinning steps - so my batch of headbands were too small for Maria. * oops. *

Don't make my mistake. That is why there is no photo for this step. :)

Now, sew the ends.

I simply zig-zagged each end that was folded over.

And there you go!

A beautiful fabric headband!

In my "too-small-for-Maria" headbands, I cut them 19" long so that's why I've adjusted to 20" for this tutorial.

I have to admit, too, that the dollar store elastics had better stretch then the name-brand ones that cost more and actually snapped when they were stretched.

Learn to Crochet - Check

Yes, the first of my New Year's Resolutions can be checked off.

Thankfully my New Year's resolution wasn't to become proficient at crochet! but just to learn it. :) And I did that.

I do plan to practice and try a pattern other than a dishcloth so that I can try the Single Crochet and Double Crochet as well as be able to follow a pattern. I did start a small piece and I know I made some mistakes so I'd like to be able to learn how to identify what I've crocheted so I know how many Double Crochets I've completed.

And so I have lots to learn!

Here you can see the first piece where I learned how to get started and the sc (single crochet) and dc (double crochet) and hdc (half double crochet) so that we could try a pattern for a "Mile a Minute" afghan sampler.

Next we started a dishcloth out of cotton and I think I got the hang of that. I did a few rows and then started my afghan sampler. No photos of either of those, sorry. :) Maybe next time.

New Year's Resolutions

I used to make such noble New Year's resolutions!
At the end of each year, I'd plan ahead and that plan included miraculous make-overs to my body that would be accomplished with minimal effort. And each new year those plans failed.

So now I make New Year's resolutions to do things I want to do! Sometimes I include "need" to do items as well, but I try to keep those to a minimum.

My 2011 New Year's Resolutions

1. Learn to crochet.

I learned new knitting techniques as my New Year's resolutions for the past few years so this year it is time to learn to crochet. There are so many beautiful patterns out there that call for crochet instead of knitting so it's high time I learned. I've had several people offer to help me and I know there must be a gazillion YouTube videos as well - and I already have crochet hooks! I'll have to check their sizes, but they came with knitting needles I picked up at yard sales and they are in lovely metallic colours so they must be fun to work with! Please leave a comment if you have a great project that is perfect for newbies to learn to crochet.

2. Continue organizing.

The book Organizing from the Inside Out was a godsend. I think I will have to take it out of the library again so that I can review several tips and refresh my memory. I just skipped on over the the library website and reserved a copy so I'm on the way to making some progress on this resolution already!

3. Knitting UFO's.

UFO = Un-Finished Object. I don't have many unfinished knitting projects, but I do have a few and I know I love knitting those particular patterns so I'd like to get back to them. I know there is a beautiful shawl waiting for me to dive back in and continue working with that soft Patons Divine yarn, and there is a soft white scarf partially knit out of a very soft cotton yarn that wants me to pick it back up and finish it, too.

4. Sewing UFO's

Hm, I'm not sure if I want to add this one ... I know I have a box of Barbie gowns and Barbie faux fur coats that are all cut and waiting to be sewn, but I'm not sure I want to commit to actually buckling down to finish them all. If I add it here then I will resolve to make the attempt. I really do want to sew up those items and now that I've typed it out, it feels good to know that I may see some progress on reducing the UFOs in that box.

I think that's enough.

I certainly don't want to set the bar so high that I don't accomplish anything at all. [grin]

Top 10 List

Hm, the radio said today that this is the time of year that Top 10 Lists are popular.

So I thought I'd do one too!

My Top 10 List for 2010.

10. Finished the pair of socks where I learned to knit the pair using circular needles - I used the book Knitting Circles Around Socks and it was a great teaching tool! I loved the step-by-step instructions and the helpful photos. I love the colour of the socks - it was hard to tell looking at the yarn that they'd turn out to look so camouflage!

9. I started organizing my house in a more organized fashion! Reading Organizing from the Inside Out was most helpful.

8. Girl Guides in Canada celebrated 100 years in 2010! And I was blessed to be able to take part in events throughout the year!

7. The Vancouver Olympics! And those fantastic red maple leaf mittens that were seen internationally. And those beautiful sweaters the Canadian Olympic team wore at the closing ceremonies.

6. Visiting the Caribbean. [sigh]

5. The world helped Haiti, and continues to help.

4. I took part in the Great Ride 'n' Stride against Cancer - it was my 29th year and the last one to be held in my city. Luckily I've located another town nearby where I'll be able to take part in 2011.

3. My sister and I each donated a Barbie to the Pretty In Pink charity auction at a local art gallery.

2. I learned to golf. I joined a golf league and even saw improvement.

Recipe - Devilled Eggs

Devilled Eggs

First off, let's talk about the best way to peel hard-boiled eggs.

Your eggs should not be fresh - the best way to peel hard-boiled eggs is to let them sit in your fridge for a week or a bit more before hard-boiling. That will make them so much easier to peel.

The other tidbit is to make sure you tap both ends (round and pointy) to break the shell, as well as all 'round the egg. Break that shell all up before peeling.

If you like, rinse the egg in water to make sure you get all the shell .. I find this makes the devilled eggs slippery, though, so keep that in mind.

Now, for my devilled eggs recipe.

Well.I must confess that I don't really use a recipe! ... but here goes ...

Cut eggs in half lengthwise, putting yolks into a bowl and whites onto tray.

Add to yolks: salt, pepper, spices (I have a spice mix called Spicey Pepper Medley that I'll use, and/or some seasoning mixes - just be sure they're powder)

I always add some mustard - I love to use those special mustards that come in Christmas cheese baskets because they usually add that right touch of flavour.

And then I add some more flavour in the form of barbeque sauce or similar for a bit of tang.

Also last I add some mayonaise or similar dressing (eg. Miracle Whip or similar).

As for measuring, well, it depends on how many egg yolks are in the mix. I never really measure. I leave the Miracle Whip/mayo until last so that I can judge how much is needed to give the yolks the right devilled eggs consistency. Not too much; not too little.

And that's it.

There is never any left at my family's functions. I'm lucky if they make it out of the kitchen!

My original Barbie - American Girl

My original Barbie is an American Girl - an early 1966 American Girl Barbie.

The butt markings on the American Girl Barbies differ and because mine has both raised and indented markings she is an early 1966.

That kind of ages me, too, doesn't it? :)

I am planning to have her model some of the new fashions I will be adding to my ennadoolf shop on Etsy so watch for her debut there hopefully in the new year.

When I was younger I loved paper dolls too.

Lennon Sisters - purchased on ebay

I had a set of Lennon Sisters. Sadly we lost them during a move.

I did find a well-loved set on ebay! I bought them. LOL

Even though one of the sisters was missing, I loved the fact that they had fold marks at their ankles because I remember how fragile the ankles of paper dolls could be! All of them had tape to reinforce them.

Now I'll be adding them to my vintage shop on Etsy one day as I enjoyed the chase of recapturing my youth and am now ready for them to go to a new home.

Isn't this a cute little zipper pouch?

It was sold in a shop on Etsy - Making Cents - and I contacted the shop owner to tell her how much I loved it.

Sadly it was sold.

We have a vintage tablecloth that my husband's grandmother embroidered. It has seen better days but I'm hoping that a project similar to this one might help me to rescue the tablecloth!

It's a great way to ensure that all the detail in vintage items is saved for future generations.

And yes, another project to add to my never-ending list!

Some day.

I'll try to find the tablecloth and add a photo of it to show some of the embroidery I plan to save.

I have 2 favourite Timmies ~ I visit both regularly depending upon my travel route and staff at both do recognize me.

I don't know if the above was specifcally designed and written for me or if the Tim Hortons staff randomly wrote on bags and I happened to get one.

Either way, it made me smile.

Wednesday Wonder - Mary For Mayor

My sister is running for Mayor of Ramara Township.

Mary said:

"I just feel there is different things we can be doing in the township and I just want to get out in the Ramara Township and see what the people want."

What the people want.

Too often we find that politicians have their own agendas.

I generally don't talk politics.

Political conversations often grow into heated discussions. In my experience both sides voice their opinions and neither is able to convince the other to change their opinions or views.

Recently there was a vote held in Canadian government. It doesn't really matter what the vote was for - but on the news, I heard that one of the politicians from Nova Scotia was not going to vote the way his party wanted him to. Why? Because he was going to vote the way his constituents wanted him to. Well, isn't that why we vote people in to office in the first place? and why do so many of those elected forget that so quickly?

If I lived in Ramara Township, I would vote for Mary.

I am proud of my sister.
